 Two Sylvias Press Online Poetry Retreat: Guest Critique Poets

Thank you to the following guest poets who are participating in our Online Poetry Retreat by critiquing poems:

Traci Brimhall Traci Brimhall is the author of five collections of poetry: Love Prodigal (Copper Canyon, forthcoming), Come the Slumberless to the Land of Nod, Saudade, Our Lady of the Ruins, and Rookery. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker,  Poetry, The Nation, Orion, The New York Times Magazine, and Best American Poetry. She’s received fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and the National Parks Service, and she currently serves as the Poet Laureate for the State of Kansas. (Available for July and August)

Danusha Laméris, a poet and essayist, was raised in Northern California, born to a Dutch father and Barbadian mother. Danusha is a recipient of a Pushcart Prize and was honored by the 2020 Lucille Clifton Legacy Award. She served as the 2018-2020 Poet Laureate of Santa Cruz County, California. Some of her work has been published in: The Best American Poetry, The New York Times, Orion, The American Poetry Review, The Kenyon Review, Ploughshares, Poetry, and Prairie Schooner. Her poem Small Kindnesses has been translated to multiple languages, quoted in O Magazine, turned into a short film, and was recently read by actress Helena Bonham Carter. Her first book, The Moons of August (2014), was chosen by Naomi Shihab Nye as the winner of the Autumn House Press Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the Milt Kessler Book Award. Her second book, Bonfire Opera, (University of Pittsburgh Press, Pitt Poetry Series), was a finalist for the 2021 Paterson Poetry Award and recipient of the 2021 Northern California Book Award in Poetry. Her third and newest collection, Blade by Blade (2024)  is now available through Copper Canyon Press. Danusha is currently on the faculty of Pacific University’s low residency MFA program. (Available for August only)
 
Diane Seuss is the author of five books of poetry. Her most recent collection is frank: sonnets (Graywolf Press 2021), winner of the PEN/Voelcker Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Pulitzer Prize. Still Life with Two Dead Peacocks and a Girl (Graywolf Press 2018), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Four-Legged Girl (Graywolf Press 2015) was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Wolf Lake, White Gown Blown Open (University of Massachusetts Press), received the Juniper Prize. Her sixth collection, Modern Poetry, is forthcoming from Graywolf Press in 2024. Seuss was a 2020 Guggenheim Fellow. She received the John Updike Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2021. She was Writer in Residence at Kalamazoo College for many years. Seuss was raised by a single mother in rural Michigan, which she continues to call home. (Available for July and August)

Jennifer K. Sweeney is the author of four books of poetry, most recently Foxlogic, Fireweed, winner of the Backwaters Prize from Backwaters Press/University of Nebraska. Her other collections are Little Spells (New Issues Press, 2015), How to Live on Bread and Music (Perugia Press), and Salt Memory (Main Street Rag). She is the recipient of many awards, including the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Perugia Press Prize, and a Pushcart Prize.  She teaches poetry workshops at the University of Redlands in California, and is known for a decade-long practice of private instruction and manuscript critique. ​(Available for July and August)
